'Scars ' Graduation film

SCARS’ IS A SHORT FILM ABOUT A YOUNG WOMAN WHO IS LEFT WITH THE SCARS OF HER PAST WHICH KEEP ON BOTHERING HER AND SHE’S UNABLE TO LIVE HER LIFE TO THE FULLEST. UNTIL SHE REALIZES THAT SHE ISN’T THE ONLY FISH IN THE POND.
‘Scars’ is an animated short film I made as my degree project. This was a four month long project where we had to work on every aspect of filmmaking. I went through various ideas and modifications of story until I settled down on this one, since I found the character and story to be relatable to myself and the world around. For this we had to combine four years of our knowledge together. This process indeed had many hurdles, since this was my first attempt to create an entire film. For that I am glad that my peers and mentors were always in supportive role. This is something I wanted to do since start of college. See your ideas take shape, the way you want them to and see them come to life.
  EARLY CONCEPTS
These are some early concepts I did for the film along with the research
Basic 3d blocking in Blender to understand the setup and lighting
STORYBOARDS
CHARACTER AND PROP DESIGN
I wanted the character to standout as she is the protagonist of our film. Considering her various traits and limitations her character was built. The body structure was average but her characteristics reflected through her dressing sense and her overall personality
COLOR SCRIPT
This was the final color palette for the film (excluding flashback scenes). I wanted her hostel room to be more on cool and calmer color side. Where she feels comfortable and safe. As she steps out of her comfort(hostel) everything turns to vibrant values of red. Signifying she doesn't feel safe in the place as red represents danger. As soon as she is back to reality in the end there is slight shift in colors again. The colors go more to warmer yellow showing her comfort coming back
ANIMATIC
BACKGROUNDS
The step which is succeeded by Color Script, is background creation. Since the color script, layout and explorations were already done, it became quite easy to figure out the final look for the backgrounds. Also, the setup, is ready beforehand, as a result of story board and animatic. The size of backgrounds depends on type of shot in the particular scene
